Christmas Letter 2007

In a village in South India there is a huge tree. Nobody knows how old this tree is. This tree is called Ammaram, „Mothertree“ and is hollow in the middle, in which every person can sit. One legend says the following: Many years ago a wise man lived inside this cave. He ate only the fruits from the tree, and wore the bark from the tree as clothing. After his death, one found the following carved into the bark he had been wearing:

The Tree does not eat its own fruits.
The River does not drink its own Floods.
And the Clouds do not rain for themselves.
For the others serves the Power of the Good

Very dear Friends and Supporters,

with this small storywe greet you for christmas and the new year. May the new year be good to you and have many pleasant surprises waiting for you.

We thank you very dearly for all the help and support in the past year. You have contributed to the preserving of our work with the parentless children in Cristuru-Secuiesc/Romania.

For us the last year was full of jolly as well as sad experiences. It is nice to see, how young people who don't experienceany support from family or state, are inspired by our work and are given new strength and courage for their life. We are informed about this often and in many ways.

We are glad that this year through the campaign „genialsozial“-Your Work against poverty / social day in Saxony, we recieved support for the construstion of a youth centre in Cristuru-Secuiesc. Momentarily we are preparing the construction and work should begin in Spring 2008. The Rotary Club „Blaues Wunder Dresden“, in Bern (Switzerland) and Rotary International will be further partners. However we are still searching further partners in order to be able to construct an adequate and solid building, which comes up with the requirements of the youth work. Our partner association Fehérlófia in Cristuru-Secuiesc was able to develop strongly this year and strengthen its engagement.

We are thankful for the volunteer service from Markus Wiatr from Bautzen. With his many talents and his amable character he was an important friend and companion for many youths. Since October Christopher Fehse and Ute Pritzke have been dispatched to here. Meanwhile both are familiarised with their work.

In Spring Peter Großmann from Großdubrau and Lucia Barca from Odorheiu-Secuiesc married and now live in Transilvania. Peter will continue to lead the youth project Fehérlófia until summer 2008. Then Hajnalka Mátéffy should resume control after her maternity leave.

We are very pleased about the youths who live in the Familyhouse. Already four of them are studying and are very motivated, to find their own way and to be responsible of their own lives. A very big Thank You for Jana Imre-Zeidler and Robert Imre, who as house parents are orientation and „replacement parents“ for the youths. Despite all adversity and financial shortages they manage to create in the Familyhouse a wonderful place of security and encouragement for their own and the adopted children.
We are not so pleased about the slow progress which is taking place for the changing of the living situation of the youths in the Child Welfare Association, which correctly translated should be calles the „Children Distribution Centre“. The Interest of the promotion of the youths is still underdeveloped and usually only the achievement of the goals „full, clean, dry“. This is a real pity, as many talents stay concealed and are not able to develop.
Even more important is the work of Fehérlófia, which starts its work at exactly this point.

Unfortunately more and more children grow up without parents or are delivered into the Child Welfare Association. Also the accomodation of the under 12 year old children in foster families didn't really work. Many of these children came back and abandonned the foster families again. This is why in the work of the Fehérlófia more and more small children come to our programs, even in nursery-school age.

Romania is experiencing a rapid economic Development. Many people belong to the newly rich and profit from the new possibilities. The keys for this are education chances, family, ethnic and social background, as well as Independence.
All these aspects do not necessarily belong to the treausures they experienced or now experience. Our work can act upon these things, however, without appropriate political response, our efforts remain very restricted.
This is why we very often witness the failing of youths on their way. If there are no parents then, who can support a new start, then the first fall is quickly bottomless.
We especially thank the supproters, who support the youths in their education through sponsorships.

Surviving in Romania is a piec of art for many. Often we ask ourselves how it works. Especially in this time of the year the rooms in many flats and houses are closed again, the heating turned off and all members of the family move together into the kitchen. You only have to heat one room, which is usually the only solution by energy prices, which hardly differ from the german prices.

We cannot solve all of these problems, but we would like to continue giving and experiencing warmth, with the people in Cristuru-Secuiesc and the children and youths from the former orphanage

Again, thank you dearly for your help, accompaniment and support.

Sincerely yours

Wolfram Hesse
Chairman
